A landmark building in the heart of Bromley is set for a grand revival. The Grade II-listed Royal Bell will reopen as a boutique hotel, restaurant, and exclusive private members' club following a major restoration project led by a group of hospitality entrepreneurs.
Dating back to 1666, The Royal Bell has welcomed historical icons including Queen Victoria, Jane Austen, and David Bowie. Now, it’s being reimagined for a new era by the BELLE Collective — a team of seasoned investors and industry names.
The group includes Nick Gold, co-founder of high-profile venues such as China White, The Hippodrome, and The Box Soho, along with Beckenham businessman Mark Goldberg, Jamie Gold and Max Cohen of Shelana Investments, and Jon Yantin, who will oversee operations at the new-look venue.
The building went on the market in July 2024 and has since been taken under the wing of Hampton Design Studio, who are managing the restoration with a focus on preserving the site’s rich heritage.
When it reopens, The Royal Bell will feature 14 individually styled bedrooms, a grand ballroom, co-working spaces, and a members-only bar, library, terrace, and sports lounge.
The food scene will be headlined by a pizza restaurant and café in collaboration with celebrity chef Aldo Zilli, alongside a garden space inspired by the famously chic Chiltern Firehouse.
Speaking about the project, Goldberg said:
“We are incredibly proud to breathe new life into The Royal Bell. This venue holds deep historic and cultural significance, and we are committed to ensuring it thrives once again as a vibrant destination for our community.”
Jamie Gold and Max Cohen added:
“We bought it in our grandfather Michael Simmons’ memory – because like him, it’s full of character, history, heart, and above all, it’s iconic.”
The Royal Bell was originally built in 1666 and later redesigned in 1898 by celebrated arts and crafts architect Ernest Newton. Its new chapter promises to blend historic grandeur with modern luxury — right in the centre of SE London.
