Three years after a vicious attack outside a Beckenham nightclub left a man fighting for his life, his grieving family is calling for the case to be reopened. Riccardo Holness, aged 42, was brutally assaulted during a night out in October 2021. He was placed on life support but tragically passed away a month later, leaving his family in anguish and desperate for justice.
His sister, Ramona Marsh, from Sevenoaks, Kent, believes the police investigation failed to uncover vital evidence, and she’s now pushing for the case to be reinvestigated. “The police missed crucial evidence from witnesses,” she said, voicing her frustration at the lack of answers in her brother’s case.
The Metropolitan Police, however, insists their investigation was thorough. They say they reviewed hours of CCTV footage and interviewed multiple witnesses, but despite these efforts, no charges were brought. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm but was later released without any charges being filed.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) also defended its decision, stating there was no “realistic prospect” of securing a conviction based on the available evidence. “Our prosecutors reviewed this case with diligence and care,” a CPS spokesperson said, adding that they had concluded the case couldn’t proceed.
But for the Holness family, this explanation offers little comfort. Ramona describes her brother as “charismatic” and someone who was loved by everyone he met. Now, the family is left not only grieving his loss but also grappling with unanswered questions about what really happened that fateful night.
With an inquest into Riccardo’s death scheduled for November, the family is determined to keep fighting for answers. They are now fundraising for legal representation in the hope that new evidence will emerge and bring them the justice they feel has been denied.
This tragic case continues to leave a shadow over Beckenham, as the Holness family waits for the day they can finally know the truth.
