Saturday 13th September 2025 will see a fleet of beautifully restored vintage London buses passing through Beckenham High Street and locals can hop on for free.
The special one-day-only event takes place on Saturday 13 September, with the heritage No. 54 route running between Elmers End Green and Blackheath. Buses will stop at key points including Penge, Forest Hill, Catford and Lewisham along the way.
From around 9am to 5pm, anyone can catch one of these classic red buses from regular stops on the route. No Oyster card, no contactless, no payment needed. Just turn up and enjoy the ride.
Expect a nostalgic mix of London buses from the 1950s through to the 1980s, complete with old-school conductors in full uniform and traditional ticket machines.
Whether you're a transport enthusiast, a local history fan or just looking for something a bit different to do with the kids, it's a great excuse to get out and explore the area.
Modern TfL buses will still be running on the route but only the vintage ones will be free of charge.
The event is organised by the London Bus Museum, which is also offering a free open day at Catford Bus Garage for anyone who wants to make a stop there.
Please note that the vintage buses aren’t wheelchair accessible, though the crews will try to assist where they can with buggies and passengers who need support.
We’ll post the full timetable here as soon as it’s available.
For now, get ready for a rare and free ride!
