Description ->
On Friday 8th May, the country will mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. VE Day will commemorate those who lost their lives fighting in the war alongside the efforts that people in this country made to see communities through the difficult years.
A series of events will take place across the Borough to mark this important day, including a special exhibition at Bromley Central Library on Friday. The exhibition will look at what life was like in Bromley during the war years and will feature items on display from the collection of the local studies and archives. Visitors will also be able to view video footage and photography that documents the war years in the Borough and how VE Day was celebrated in May 1945.
The event takes place between 2pm and 3pm at the Library’s Central Hall. The exhibition will draw to a close by joining in with the two-minute national silence at 3pm.
Entry is free, but all visitors will need to book a ticket in advance. To book your space, you can contact Bromley Local Studies and Archives on 020 8461 7170 or email them at localstudies.library@bromley.gov.uk.
As part of the VE Day celebrations, we would love to hear from people who lived in Bromley throughout the Second World War. What memories do you have of life during the war years? Did you take part in any of the original VE Day celebrations?
