The Beckenham Town Centre Team was part of a successful bid to the Mayor’s High Street Fund. They were looking for funds to help clean up the town’s alleyways and were awarded £20,000.
The Do Up Our Alley project is now seeking comments from local residents on the state of the alleyways. If you live or work close to the alleyways and want to have your say, they have set up an online survey that can be completed here.
The money will be put towards naming, signing, cleaning up, and generally improving the look and maintenance of the alleyways. In total, there are 15 alleyways that run in the section from the War Memorial to Beckenham Junctions, including The Mews, Church Hill Alley, Thornton’s Alley, and Leather Alley. The team hope to make the money go as far as possible.
As part of the work, the Do Up Our Alley team is also looking for willing volunteers to help with some of the areas. This includes residents who are willing to participate in community days, artists and designers who can contribute their skills, and other local trades and businesses that want to support the project in any way by giving their time or money.
What do you think about the current condition of Beckenham’s alleyways? How do you think the team can improve them?
