An activity centre dedicated to providing services for local disabled children has reached the shortlist for an awards ceremony hosted by the Mayor of London. Maypole Active, which is based in Orpington, is an inclusive facility that offers sports and activities for children with disabilities or complex needs.
They have been shortlisted as part of the Mayor’s Team London Awards and will attend the ceremony this evening. The awards will be announced during an event where the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will give thanks to a range of organisations and individuals who provide inspirational services throughout the capital.
Maypole Active is situated on Green Street Green in Orpington and will be competing against eight other organisations and individuals within the “sport and healthy living” category. The Team London Awards are an opportunity to recognise the work of volunteers who provide valuable services to local communities.
The sessions at the centre run every Wednesday evening during term time, providing children who have a range of disabilities and other needs with a place to socialise and take part in sports and other activities. It also enables their parents and carers to take a break whilst knowing that their children are having fun in a secure environment.
