Improving Beckenham At Night

The Beckenham Town Centre Team is working with the Beckenham Business Association to improve the town centre area at night. This is part of their work towards gaining a Purple Flag Award.

The Purple Flag Award is a scheme that showcases those town and city centres that meet certain standards for the safety, cleanliness, and appropriateness of their night-time facilities. This includes having a range of high quality bars, clubs, art venues, and cultural locations along with good transport connections and easy access.

An evening destination

As part of these plans, Beckenham has been targeted as an ideal opportunity for development. It is already an area that is enjoyed by many people during the evening, and the development team want to widen its appeal in order to attract visitors from across the region.

The development plans for Beckenham include using a number of different venues for evening entertainment, such as the theatre, cinema, churches, library, leisure centre, and open spaces. As part of the work to gain Purple Flag status, the team will look at all elements of the town centre, including access arrangements, lighting, signage, cleanliness, and the variety of locations that are available.

What do you think could be done to help improve Beckenham’s image as an evening destination? We’d love to hear your views on what areas the development team should be concentrating on and what you currently enjoy about coming into the town centre during the evening.
