National Counter Terrorism Policing (NCTP) has issued guidance to communities in Bromley and others throughout the country outlining what they should do in the event of a terrorist attack. The four-minute video has been launched with the country’s terror alert remaining at severe, which means that an attack is highly likely.
The film provides information on how the general public can keep themselves safe if they do get caught up in an attack. The advice is to run and find a safe place if possible rather than confronting or negotiating with the attackers. Then you should hide, ensure your phone is on silent, and call 999 when it’s safe to do so.
NCTP do not want to alarm Londoners by issuing this video, and they have reiterated that the risk of being involved in a terror attack remains extremely low. However, they do want members of the public to be aware of the potential threat. Knowing what to do in this kind of event could help save your life.
They have also reminded people to be vigilant about anything that could be suspicious. If you see any activity or behaviour that is suspicious, you should call 999 if it’s an emergency, or you can contact the Anti-Terrorist Hotline in confidence on 0800 789 321 if it’s not.
