A driver who is employed by Stagecoach in Bromley has scooped the UK Bus Driver of the Year 2015 award. He beat competition from 118 other drivers who work on routes across the country.
At just 22 years old, William Bradford is one of the youngest people ever to win the title. He has been working for the Stagecoach company for the last four years. He started his training when he’d only had his driving licence for two weeks.
Before he took the UK-wide title, he was also named England’s best driver and was the highest ranked bus driver in London and within the Stagecoach network. In addition to walking away with the prestigious titles, he also received cash prizes and trophies to commemorate his success.
Those who reached the final round of the competition had to make it through their regional heats first. During the final competition, they were given a simulated route to drive along that featured the types of hazards that they might expect to find on a normal day. To make it more realistic, the drivers all had a schedule to keep to and had to be tested on private and public roads. They also took a written test that included questions on bus driver general knowledge and the Highway Code.
Do you know William or do you regularly use a bus on his route? Do you think there are other drivers in the area who deserve a special recognition?
