Sarah Waite of Foxes Hair and Beauty Salon in Beckenham took just a couple of minutes to send in a cheeky selfie supporting Small Business Saturday and walked off with a cool £250 cheque from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Small Business Saturday Twitter Competition.
FSB supports Small Business Saturday, which takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, to encourage more people to do their Christmas shopping and socialising using local independent businesses.
Local events were staged right across the UK over the past few weeks and months, highlighting the value of our small firms to local MPs and councillors who visited independent traders and talked to local businesses.
Bromley-based small business owners and FSB members, Jackie Groundsell and Steve Wheeler, presented Sarah with her prize cheque last Friday.
Sarah Waite, winner of FSB’s Small Business Saturday Twitter Photo competition said:
“I am absolutely delighted to win; I think Small Business Saturday is a great initiative and urge everyone to support their local small independent businesses, throughout the year, not just on Small Business Saturday weekend.”
Jon Fox, owner of Foxes said:
“I’m very blessed to run a small business with such loyal clients, who have stayed with me as I have opened other salons. I’m very happy that Sarah won as it’s given her a real boost. This campaign by the FSB to help people find out what the small shops in their area can offer has been fantastic.”
Jackie Groundsell, FSB Bromley representative and Owner of 1230 TWC said:
“London is an amazing city in which to do business, but it can be quite tough especially for small independent business owners competing with large well known chains. Small independent businesses rely on the holiday trading period to ensure their viability through the rest of the trading year. That’s why we fully support Small Business Saturday and we’ve been really pleased with the response from shoppers, businesses, MPs and local councils.”
