On 27th January 2010, MICHAEL LOCKTON, a former President of the Society on two occasions, presented his display of GB Post Office Labels (and Etiquettes). He started with Recorded Delivery, then Airmail, followed by C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery), Compulsory Registration labels, Coin Letters, Charge labels including Customs Duties and VAT, Mail Apparatus items, HVP (High Value Parcels), Railway Express, later Railex, and finally “Fragile,” “Perishable,” and “Eggs” parcels labels. As well as unused copies of the labels, sometimes in complete sheets, Mike provided a wide range of covers and parcel pieces illustrating the usage of these items, both internally and to/from the UK. There was additional information in the form of Instruction leaflets, internal Post Office items etc. Specially produced Company items were included, as were early items in the service concerned but before labels and etiquettes were introduced.
Each of the labels invariably changed in format, colour and design over the years, and Michael was able to show this development, and the changing rates etc.
